राजनीतिमा होमिनेका आ-आफ्नै भावना, विचार र लक्ष्य होलान्। रौतहटको यमुना गाउँपालिका-३ घर भएका लखिन्द्र दास तात्मा दलित माथिको भेदभाव अन्त्य गर्न चाहन्थे। जातीय भेदभाव, छुवाछुत समाजको मैलो हो, यसलाई उखेल्न राजनीति गर्नुपर्छ भन्ने उनलाई लाग्थ्यो।
आफूभित्रको विद्रोही चेत र भर्भराउँदो जोस लिएर समाज सफा गर्ने नियतका साथ उनी एकदिन झ्याम्मै राजनीतिमा होमिएका थिए।
त्यसअघि उनले धेमरैथरि काम गरिसकेका थिए।
२०५० सालमा एसएलसी पास गरेपछि लखिन्द्रले एक इँट्टा उद्योगमा लेखापढीको जागिर पाएका थिए। काम म्यानेजरको थियो, तलब मासिक छ सयमात्रै।
केही समय काम गरेपछि उनले ग्रामीण जनस्वास्थ्य कर्याकर्ताको अस्थायी जागिर पाए। तर त्यो जागिर खान उनलाई भोजपुर पुग्नुपर्यो। तलब २ हजार दुई सय थियो। त्यति पर पुगेर खाएको जागिर धेरै समय टिकेन, उनी ६ महिनामै त्यो जागिरबाट बिदा भए। उनले छ महिनामै पनि धेरैथरि कुरा सिक्न र देख्न पाए। आफ्नो भन्दा भिन्न समाज हेरे। त्यहाँ पनि विभेद देखे। उनीभित्रको विद्रोही चेत बिउँझिँदै थियो।
गाउँ फर्किएर पुनः इँट्टा उद्योगमै काम थालेका उनले पछि गाउँमै किराना पसल सुरू गरे। त्यो पसललाई बढाउँदै किरानाको थोक पसल बनाए।
यहाँसम्म पुग्दा लखिन्द्र राजनीतिमा होमिइसकेका थिए।
२०६९ सालमा उनी दलित जनजाति पार्टीको केन्द्रीय सदस्य बने।
‘पसल चलाउँदै राजनीतिलाई पनि समय दिन्थेँ। पसलले राम्रै आम्दानी दिइरहेको थियो। केही पैसा जम्मा गरेको थिएँ,’ उनले भने।
राजनीतिमा लाग्दा लाग्दै दोस्रो संविधानसभाको चुनाव आयो। उनी संविधानसभा सदस्यको निर्वाचनमा उठ्न ठिक्क परे।
‘राजनीतिको नसाले मलाई निर्वाचनमा उठेर जनताका लागि संविधान लेख्न जान प्रेरित गर्यो,’ उनी भन्छन्।
२०७० सालमा भएको संविधानसभाको निर्वाचनमा रौतहट जिल्ला क्षेत्र नम्बर-१ बाट दलित जनजाति पार्टीको उम्मेदवार बनेका थिए लखिन्द्र।
त्यतिखेर पूर्वप्रधानमन्त्री माधवकुमार नेपाल पनि सोही क्षेत्रका उम्मेदवार थिए।
उनलाई ठूलो मान्छेसँग प्रतिस्पर्धा गर्दैछु भन्ने राम्रै हेक्का थियो। उनलाई भने आफूले जति जनताको भावना ठूलाठूला मान्छेले बुझ्छन् जस्तो लाग्दैनथ्यो।
‘म सोच्थेँ, यो क्षेत्रबाट मैले जिते मात्र यहाँको जनताको भावना संविधानमा लेखिन्छ। यहाँका गरिब, निमुखा, पिछडिएका, दलित समुदायको मर्म मैले जति अरू उम्मेदवारले बुझ्दैनन् भन्ने मलाई लागेको थियो,’ उनले भने, ‘यही सोचेर उनीहरूको मत पाउने आशाका साथ चुनावमा होमिएको थिएँ।’
चुनाव लड्दा उनलाई पार्टी अध्यक्ष विश्वेन्द्र पासवानले राम्रै सहयोग गरेका थिए।
पासवानले उनको निर्वाचन क्षेत्रमा पटक-पटक पुगेर भाषण गरे। जनता पनि पासवान र लखिन्द्रको कुरालाई ध्यान दिएर सुन्थे।
‘हामीहरूले जनताका अधिकारलाई संविधानमा सुनिश्चित गर्छौंभन्दा ताली बज्थ्यो, सबै खुसी हुन्थे,’ उनी सम्झन्छन्, ‘म पनि उत्साहित भएर आफूसँग भएको केही पैसा खर्च गर्दै हिँडेँ।’
चुनावमा नेपालले ८ हजार तीन ६१ भोट ल्याउँदा उनको भोट पाँच सय २२ मात्रै आयो। ५२ जना उम्मेदवारमध्ये धेरै भोट ल्याउनेमा उनी दशौं स्थानमा परे।
कुल १ हजार नौ सय २७ मत बदर हुँदा ५०० मत आफुलाई भोट हाल्नेको मात्रै रहेको लखिन्द्र सम्झन्छन्।
‘मलाई जिताउने चाहना हुँदाहुँदै पनि अशिक्षाका कारण धेरैले भोट हाल्न जानेनन्, चाहना भएका कतिपयलाई पैसाले लोभ्यायो,’ उनले भने, ‘त्यतिखेर पैसाको लोभमा अरूलाई भोट दिने मेरा छिमेकी अहिले पछुताउँदै छन्, मेरो यता यो अवस्था छ।’
जनताको मन जितेको ठानेका लखिन्द्र चुनाव मात्रै हारेनन्, सिधै सडकमा पुग्न बाध्य भए।
उनी चुनाव लडेको पार्टी अहिले बहुजन शक्ति पार्टी बनेको छ। उक्त पार्टीका नेता पासवान मन्त्री बनिसकेका छन्।
लखिन्द्रले भने निर्वाचन लडेर २० लाख रूपैयाँ सके। त्यसमा आधा भन्दा बढी ऋण थियो। त्यो ऋण तिर्न नसक्दा उनले आफ्नो पसल गुमाए। सँगै हुर्कंदै गरेका छोरा, छोरीको जिम्मेवारीले उनलाई गाउँमा बस्न दिएन।
परिवार पाल्ने मेसो गर्न उनी २०७२ सालमा चितवन आइपुगे। लखिन्द्रलाई चुनावले समाजको त्यो मैलो फाल्ने अवसर दिएन, चितवन आएर उनी सफाइको काममा लागे।
भरतपुरमा उनले साइकलमा कवाडी सामान संकलन गरेर विक्रीको काम पाए।
राजनीतिको चमकधमकबाट ओर्लेर सिधै सडकको फोहर टिप्न आइपुग्ने परिस्थिति सहन उनलाई गाह्रो भएको थियो। त्यसमाथि फोहर उठाउने कामको कदर समाजमा हुन्न। काम गर्दा कसैले चिन्ला कि भनेर सुरूसुरूमा उनी निकै सतर्क हुन्थे।
‘केही महिना यसरी काम गर्न खुब लाज लाग्यो। नेता भएर हिँडेको मान्छेलाई कसैले चिन्ला कि, यस्तो काम पो गर्दो रहेछ भनेर हेप्ला कि भन्ने चिन्ताले मलाई सताउँथ्यो,’ उनी भन्छन्, ‘तै पनि बाध्यता थियो। लाजलाई पचाउँदै काममा लागेँ।’
उनले अहिले लाज धक र डर सबैलाई जितेका छन्। तर यी ५ वर्षमा लखिन्द्रले चुनावको ऋण तिर्न सकेका छैनन्।
‘अब तिर्न बाँकी धेरै त छैन, विदेश गएको भाइले पनि ऋण तिर्नलाई केही सहयोग गर्यो,’ उनले भने, ‘एक–दुई लाख बाँकी छ, त्यो केही समयमा तिरेर सक्छु।’
५१ वर्षीय लखिन्द्रका चार दाजुभाइ सगोलमै छन्। उनका तीन छोरा, दुई छोरी छन्। छोरीहरूको विवाह भयो, छोराहरू पढ्दै छन्। हुर्कंदै गरेका छोराहरूलाई शिक्षा दिनु छ। पारिवारिक खर्च पठाउँदै अभिभावकको जिम्मेवारी निभाउनुपर्ने दायित्व उनको काँधमा छ।
तर राजनीति गरेर जनताको सेवा गर्ने हुटहुटी उनमा सकिएको छैन। सभासद बन्न नसकेका उनलाई अब गाउँपालिकाको अध्यक्षको निर्वाचनमा उम्मेदवार बन्ने मन छ।
‘संविधान त लेख्न सकिनँ, त्यतिखेर मसँगै हिँडेर मलाई भोट दिएर सघाउने जनतालाई सहयोग गर्दै गाउँको विकास गर्ने मन छ,’ उनले भने, ‘हेर्दै जाऊँ, बेलाले के के गर्छ।’
कवाडी सामान बेचेर मासिक १२ हजार रूपैयाँदेखि ४० हजार रूपैयाँसम्म कमाउँछन् उनी।
पहिले पहिले उनलाई यो काम गर्न लाज लाग्थ्यो। विस्तारै बुझे- कुनै पनि काम सानो हुँदैन रैछ। भारतका प्रधानमन्त्रीले सानामा चिया बेच्थे भनेको सुनेका छन् उनले। यस्ता कुराले उनलाई कामको कदर गर्न सिकायो।
‘अरू पनि धेरै मान्छे त्यस्तो सानो कामबाट ठूलो बनेको सुनेको छु,’ उनले भने, ‘यी कुरा सम्झँदा मलाई काम गर्ने जाँगर पलाउन थाल्छ।’
छोरा, छोरीको भविष्य र आफ्नै इच्छा पूरा गर्नका लागि मेहनत गरिरहेको छु भन्ने सोचेर उनी दंग पनि पर्छन्।
उनले ऋण तिर्न पो राजनीति छोडेर फोहर संकलनमा लागेका हुन्, तर यहाँ पनि उनले आफ्नो छवि बनाइसकेका छन्।
प्लास्टिकजन्य फोहोरको पुनर्चक्र गर्ने संस्था रिसाइक्लर साथीमा उनी आवद्ध छन्।
यो संस्थाले संकलन गर्ने सरसफाईकर्मीहरूसँग समन्वय गरेर काम गर्छ। यो संस्थाका अनुसार चितवनमा कवाडी सामान संकलन गर्ने र अन्य सरसफाइकर्मीको संख्या करिब २ हजार छ।
ती सरसफाइकर्मीले लखिन्द्रलाई नेताजी भनेर बोलाउँछन्। उनी पनि नेताकै शैलीमा काम कुरा गर्छन्, गफिन्छन्।
समस्या त यो काममा पनि धेरै हुन्छन्। कवाडी उठाउनेलाई हेप्ने समाज छ उनीरूको श्रमबारे बुझ्ने राज्य छैन। त्यसैले साथी भाइलाई परिआएको समस्या सुनेर ठाउँमा पुर्याउन कोसिस गर्छन्।
‘कुनै दिन आफ्नो समुदायका लागि अधिकार चाहियो भनेर सामन्त वर्गका विरूद्ध लडेको थिएँ, अहिले श्रमजीवीको समस्यालाई राज्यले सुन्नुपर्छ भनेर बोल्छु,’ उनले भने, ‘हामी फोहर संकलन गरेर गाउँ, सहर सफा बनाउँछौं तर राज्य हामीलाई चोरको जस्तो व्यवहार गर्छ, त्यस्तो मलाई चित्त बुझ्दैन।’
भरतपुरमा प्लास्टिकजन्य वस्तुको पुनर्चक्रको काम गर्दै आएका व्यवसायी माधव अर्यालको बुझाइमा लखिन्द्र मेहनती मान्छे हुन्।
रिसाइक्लर साथीका अध्यक्ष आनन्द मिश्रले संस्थाले देशभर रहेका लखिन्द्र जस्तै सरसफाइकर्मीहरूलाई सम्मान गर्दै प्रोत्साहन गर्दै आएको बताए।
‘काम गर्नेक्रममा कसैले कवाडी भनेर, कसैले फोहोरी, खाते भनेर उहाँहरूलाई हेप्ने गर्छन् तर उहाँहरूले समाजलाई पुर्याइरहेको योगदानको मूल्यांकन कतैबाट भएको छैन,’ उनले भने, ‘हामीले उहाँहरूलाई स-सम्मान काम गर्ने वातावरण तयार पार्ने कोसिस गर्दै आएका छौं।’
उक्त संस्थाले सरसफाइकर्मीलाई बेला–बेलामा आवश्यक सुरक्षाका सामग्री उपलब्ध गराउनेदेखि उनीहरूलाई काममा प्रोत्साहन गराउने उद्देश्यले कदरपत्र दिएर सम्मान गर्ने गरेको छ। सरसफाइकर्मीका रूपमा पाएको कदरपत्र देखाउँदै लखिन्द्रले भने, ‘सबै कामको सम्मान भए पो देश बन्छ।’
